$50,000 in monthly volume across 800 transactions, at 2.9% + $0.30/transaction + a $25 monthly fee: percentage fee = $1,450, per-transaction fee = $240, flat fee = $25. Total fees = $1,715, for a net payout of $48,285 — an effective rate of about 3.43%, noticeably higher than the quoted 2.9%.

Common questions
The quoted percentage rate is only one component. Per-transaction fees and the monthly flat/gateway fee both get spread across your volume, so a processor advertising "2.9%" often works out closer to 3.2-3.5% effective once transaction and flat fees are included — especially at lower volumes or with many small transactions.
