ICICI Bank Emeralde Private Metal Credit Card Review: Super-Premium, Invite-Led

Finance & Business 4.0 Updated 24 August 2026 Rs.12,499 + GST/year (waived above Rs.10 lakh annual spend, invite-only)

Pros

  • Unlimited domestic and international lounge access, primary and add-on cards
  • 3% base rate still applies to insurance, education, and grocery spends
  • Strong welcome bundle: 12,500 points + Taj Epicure Plus + EazyDiner Prime
  • Low 1.99% forex markup and unlimited golf privileges

Cons

  • 2026 changes excluded Government Services, Fuel, Property Management, Rent, Tax, and Wallets from rewards
  • Invite-only -- no standalone application; effective income bar reportedly near Rs.5 lakh/month
  • High annual fee (Rs.12,499 + GST) even with the Rs.10 lakh spend waiver
  • iShop redemption value drops sharply outside flights/hotels/select brands (down to Rs.0.4/point for statement credit)

Positioning

Emeralde Private Metal sits in the same super-premium tier as HDFC Infinia, built for high-net-worth spenders who want a comprehensive lifestyle and travel package rather than a narrow points-optimization tool. It is a distinct, newer product from ICICI's older Emeralde card, not just a rebrand.

Fees and welcome benefit

Joining and annual renewal fee is Rs.12,499 + GST, reversed if you spend Rs.10 lakh or more in the preceding year. On payment of the joining fee, cardholders receive 12,500 Reward Points, a complimentary one-year Taj Epicure Plus membership (including one complimentary night's stay), and an EazyDiner Prime membership renewed annually.

Reward rate

The base rate is 6 ICICI Reward Points per Rs.200 spent -- 3% at the standard Rs.1/point redemption value -- and unusually, this applies to grocery, education, insurance, and utility transactions, categories most premium cards exclude entirely. Through the iShop platform, hotel bookings earn 12X points (roughly 6% effective) and flights/vouchers earn 6X (roughly 3%). Redemption value varies by category: up to Rs.1/point for flights, hotels, and select brand vouchers; Rs.0.6/point through the general rewards catalogue; and Rs.0.4/point for plain statement credit.

2026 exclusion changes

ICICI's 2026 change notice removed Government Services, Fuel, Property Management, Rent, Tax Payments, and Third-Party Wallets from reward-point eligibility on this card -- worth flagging clearly, since the card's original appeal partly rested on rewarding categories other premium cards exclude, and this update narrows that somewhat.

Perks

Unlimited domestic and international lounge access via Priority Pass (extending to add-on cardholders), unlimited complimentary golf rounds and lessons, up to Rs.750 off a second BookMyShow ticket, a 24/7 concierge, purchase protection, travel insurance, and a competitive 1.99% forex markup.

Access

Like HDFC Infinia, this is an invite-only card -- there's no standalone open application. ICICI typically extends invitations through a Relationship Manager to existing high-value customers; the effective income bar has reportedly risen to around Rs.5 lakh/month salary credit with RM approval.

How it compares

Against HDFC Infinia (3.33% base + up to 33% SmartBuy ceiling), Emeralde's flat 3% base rate is lower on paper, but it's the more well-rounded earner if a meaningful share of your spend is insurance, education, or general grocery -- categories Infinia's base rate also covers, but where Emeralde's inclusion of these was historically a stronger differentiator before the 2026 exclusions. The two cards are close enough that the practical tiebreaker is usually which bank you already have the stronger relationship with.

Bottom line

A genuine peer to HDFC Infinia at the top of the Indian credit card market, with the standout point being reward-earning on categories (education, insurance, utilities) most premium cards ignore -- though the 2026 changes trimmed some of that same list. Approval is invite-led either way, so this is realistically a card you're offered rather than one you apply for cold.

Fees, reward rates, caps, and benefits verified against issuer pages and multiple comparison-site listings as of August 2026, including recent 2026 devaluations and rule changes noted above -- confirm current terms on the issuer's official page/MITC before publishing or applying, as card terms change without notice.
